Instagram is expanding its standalone Edits app with a feature for carousel posts. Creators should be able to edit multi-part posts with photos, videos, text and design elements in a single project. According to reports, the rollout starts 7on October 2026 on iOS first, with an Android version to follow.
Why carousels matter for Edits
Until now, Edits has focused on Reels production. With multi-part image and video posts, Meta is covering another key Instagram content type. This is especially relevant for how-to posts, product introductions and visual explainers that are spread across several slides.
The tool is set to allow, among other things, text, backgrounds and mixed image-and-video layouts. Elaborate, continuous designs could thus be created without constantly switching between several apps. Whether the features are sufficient for professional brand templates and approval workflows, teams will have to test for themselves.
Not everyone has the feature right away
Initial tests of a carousel editor in Edits were already documented in September. The October step goes further, but it is not a confirmed worldwide launch on all devices. The coverage by The Verge names iOS first and Android later. If you don't see the editor yet, check your app version and wait for the rollout.
One workflow for production and insights
Instagram is developing Edits in parallel as an analytics and creative tool. The already announced AI assistant in Edits can help with topic ideas based on metrics. In addition, the Meta One subscriptions raise questions about possible usage limits for individual features.
The new editor interface does not replace a content strategy. Carousels work best when every slide has a purpose and the information stays easy to read. This fits our Instagram marketing guide for businesses.
Conclusion: Edits becomes usable for a wider range of tasks, initially on the iPhone. A reach boost from using the in-house editor is not proven.
