Reddit is becoming more relevant for health research: According to the Reddit Health Summit 2026, health conversations on the platform received more than 36 billion views last year. In a US survey, 61 % of people searching for health information said they use Reddit as a “final check” before acting. For health brands, this is above all a signal about community and search behaviour – not a reason to replace medical advice with social content.
Health research no longer ends at Google or AI
Reddit describes health decisions as a multi-stage process: people move between symptoms, search, doctors, family members and communities. Often the focus is less on the basic definition of a condition and more on experiences with diagnosis, treatment and everyday life.
According to Reddit, 473 million views last year went to posts in which patients linked symptoms or experiences with a possible illness. Among users interested in reproductive health, seven in ten said Reddit had better prepared them for conversations with medical professionals.
Reddit also points out that users who use AI research on Reddit on average 46 % more deeply. This fits a pattern that is visible beyond health too: search engines and AI deliver quick answers, while communities provide personal experiences and counterarguments. This combination is exactly what matters for marketing. More on this in our analysis of social search, AI and shopping.
36 billion views – but the data needs context
The largest figures come directly from Reddit and from studies Reddit cites. The company mentions, among other things:
- more than 36 billion views on health conversations last year,
- 46 % of doctors in the US are active on Reddit,
- 61 % of US health information seekers use Reddit as a “final check” before taking action,
- two thirds of the views around autoimmune conditions arose outside condition-specific communities.
The sources range from GWI data to Reddit and Attest surveys. For German marketers, these values are therefore more a directional indicator than a directly transferable market benchmark.
What health brands can take from this
The most important point is not to target as many health terms as possible. Reddit rather shows that health questions can surface in communities about everyday life, relationships, travel, careers, beauty or finance. For GLP-1 discussions, Reddit, for example, names Healthy Living, Family & Relationships, Entertainment, Career Advice, Travel and Business & Finance as relevant interest groups.
For brands this means: context before reach. Content that answers concrete questions, makes sources transparent and does not treat discussions like classic ad space is what makes sense. This applies especially in sensitive categories, where imprecise claims or exaggerated promises quickly become a compliance risk. Our social media compliance checklist 2026 shows which approvals and control steps marketing teams should map out for this.
Reddit is meanwhile expanding its advertising automation in parallel. With Reddit Max, advertisers can now deliver AI-supported campaigns more broadly. In health, however, it remains decisive that targeting and creative not only work technically, but also fit the sensitive environment from a regulatory and content perspective.
Conclusion
The Health Summit shows how strongly Reddit is now used as a complement to search and AI. For health brands this creates an interesting research and communication space – but also a particular responsibility. Community experiences can create trust and context, but should not replace medical information.
