YouTube is testing additional monthly bonuses for selected Shorts creators in Germany. The pilot started according to YouTube's announcement from 15. October 2026 in six countries: Germany, the USA, the UK, Brazil, Japan and South Korea. Free applications are not possible.
The program targets a specific gap: regularly published short videos require production effort, even when a channel does not yet qualify to share in advertising revenue. The test is aimed at selected participants in the YouTube Partner Program and is meant to additionally reward regular publishing.
Two components, but no general euro flat rate
In the official terms and conditions, YouTube distinguishes between a minimum payment for a set number of public Shorts and a possible additional performance bonus for valid active views.
The conditions are set out in the individual invitation: the number of Shorts, the amount, the term and minimum requirements can vary. The requirement of 16 uploads per month circulating online comes from a single participant example and is not a general YouTube rule. Likewise, there is no universally confirmed euro amount per 1.000 views.
Creators are invited by email or message in YouTube Studio. According to the Help Center, the invitation must be accepted by the 15 of the month so that Shorts activity already counts for that month; later acceptances only count in the following month. Payment also requires that monetization eligibility still exists at the end of the relevant month.
Organic active views are what matter
For the performance-based share, YouTube uses valid engaged Shorts views. Views triggered by ads explicitly do not count. The final confirmed figures may differ from preliminary analytics numbers. The bonus is settled together with the usual monthly YouTube revenue via AdSense; the additional amount is not guaranteed.
If you already work with YouTube's creator monetization system, keep two measurement series separate: upload compliance for the minimum payment, and actually organic active views for variable bonuses. The focus on original Shorts rather than reuploads also remains relevant for long-term channel strategy.
Incentives in YouTube Shopping increase at the same time
Independently of the Shorts pilot, YouTube shows, according to YouTube Creator Liaison Rene Ritchie, additional time-limited offers in the Shopping Hub for participating affiliate creators. There, brands can offer special bonuses alongside ordinary commissions; stated product tags and the labelling of paid advertising remain decisive. In addition, Shopping clicks and sales-related reporting are presented in more detail.
For German creators, the connection is interesting because YouTube Shopping has now also integrated new merchant partners such as AliExpress for Germany. Nevertheless, the Shorts production bonus and Shopping commissions are two different programs. A product sale does not become an organic Shorts view as a result.
Practical takeaway: If you do not receive an official invitation, you cannot currently apply for the Shorts bonus actively. If you are invited, document the individual minimum numbers, bonus conditions and term in Studio before producing additional content – and only count on organic performance data.
