X is bundling its paid social media features with the AI services Grok and Cursor in one shared subscription. "The X Subscription" was announced on 12 October 2026 and is aimed at creators as well as developers and businesses. Instead of individual premium subscriptions, there are five tiers to choose from, including a free variant. The rollout for new customers is underway, while existing customers can initially keep their current plans.
For creators, the entry point changes above all
The official pricing overview from xAI separates the five tiers by features and the AI quota shared between them:
- Free: free use of X with limited Grok and agent requests.
- Plus – 8 US dollars per month: verification badge, extended creator tools, less advertising and access to Grok and Cursor.
- Premium – 30 US dollars: Premium+ benefits on X, newer Grok models, Grok Bot and four times the AI quota compared to Plus.
- Super – 100 US dollars: the same core features with 15 times the Plus quota.
- Ultra – 200 US dollars: 50 times the Plus quota.
These are the published US dollar prices, excluding any applicable taxes and fees, not confirmed German final prices. The actual limits differ depending on the product. A larger AI quota therefore does not automatically equate to a fixed number of additional X impressions.
Notably, a comparatively inexpensive tier now already includes a badge and creator features. If you only publish on X, you don't necessarily need the more expensive AI tiers. If you also develop or create content with AI, you can consolidate several previously separate subscriptions. For a classification of the revenue side, our overview of creator monetisation and platform requirements remains relevant.
AI usage is shared – third-party providers cost extra
The decisive change lies not only in the bundle price. According to the official product announcement, Grok and Cursor use a shared pool that renews weekly for the provider's models. Consumption in one service therefore reduces the quota included for the other. This makes the plan attractive for users who switch between research, image creation and programming, but it requires a shared budget for these tasks.
One important detail is easily overlooked in the promotion of the package: third-party models in Cursor are not included in the monthly fee. They remain available from Premium onwards, but are billed separately based on API usage. Grok API usage is also billed separately according to the stated tariffs. The new package is not an all-inclusive plan for all AI models.
X is combining the new structure with further experiments around creators and AI. The already announced Grok Bot Template Rewards programme, however, concerns a different revenue source than the regular premium features. Likewise, automatic campaign creation with X Lift remains a separate advertising product, not part of a flat-rate included ad booking.
When switching, the shared account is the real decision
The X Help Center confirms that existing subscriptions continue to run for the time being. Switching is voluntary, but it results in a permanent merging of the selected Grok and Cursor accounts. A personal X account can be connected to retain the X benefits. X accounts managed by organisations cannot be linked in the same way as personal accounts.
If you subscribed to a Cursor plan through the Apple App Store, you need to check its cancellation separately when switching. For other existing contracts, the provider offers pro-rata refunds depending on the payment method.
For German social media teams, the key factor is therefore less the maximum Ultra tier than separating the costs: X Premium features, included AI usage, separately billed third-party models and classic advertising spend are four different line items. The announced global rollout also does not mean that every switching option is already visible in every existing account.
