A new analysis of 7,1 million TikTok posts provides current benchmarks for posting times. In Buffer's dataset, Saturday was the strongest weekday overall, while the single top slot fell on Sunday at 9. Monday at 13 and Sunday at 13 also ranked high.
The most important takeaway for social media teams, however, is not to put every post on one supposedly perfect time. The analysis points more to recurring activity windows: evenings between 18 and 23 often perform well, while many afternoon hours are weaker.
The strongest TikTok times in Buffer's dataset
For the analysis, Buffer evaluated posts published through its own platform and compared the median engagement rate. The strongest slots per weekday named by Buffer are:
- Monday: 13
- Tuesday: 6
- Wednesday: 22
- Thursday: 13
- Friday: 18
- Saturday: 17
- Sunday: 9
It is important to distinguish between a single slot and the whole day. Sunday at 9 was the strongest individual time, but across all hours Saturday performed best. Monday and Sunday followed behind.
Buffer also notes that times were normalized for different time zones. Nevertheless, the dataset remains a sample of accounts that use Buffer. It is therefore not a complete measurement of all TikTok posts worldwide.
Why the figures are not a universal rule
Posting time can support reach, but it does not replace a strong topic or a good hook. Buffer itself points out that there is no universal best time for every account. Audience, region, niche and content format change usage behavior considerably.
This also matches TikTok's own recommendation to use analytics and the active usage times of your own audience as a starting point. TikTok Studio bundles performance and engagement data directly for creators and accounts.
For German brands, a sensible workflow is therefore:
- Use the benchmarks first as test windows.
- Compare them with your own TikTok Studio data.
- Test two to three fixed slots over several weeks.
- Evaluate watch time, views, shares and comments together.
- Only then adjust the posting plan.
Especially for larger accounts, the regional distribution may matter more than the time itself. TikTok now reaches 189 million monthly users in the EU, so international audiences can quickly create several activity windows.
Timing is an amplifier, not a reach hack
The data points more to good time windows than to a secret algorithm trick. If you already publish strong content regularly, timing can improve the starting conditions. Weak content, however, does not automatically succeed just because it is posted in a perfect slot.
For organic strategies, format, topic and interaction therefore remain decisive. TikTok is also expanding the comment section with Voice, polls and photo carousels, for example. On the paid side, AI is at the same time taking on more and more tasks in TikTok's advertising platform.
What marketing teams can take from the study
If you do not yet have reliable data of your own, you can start with Buffer's figures: test Saturday and Sunday, prioritize evening windows, and run individual strong slots such as Sunday 9 or Monday 13 against your own results.
Once enough account data is available, however, the general benchmarks should move into the background. For operational planning, your own audience matters more than a global average.
