Instagram is getting a sticker that lets you insert Threads posts directly into Stories. The feature, observed in early October 2026, shows posts from Threads that a user has previously liked or saved when selecting it – including their own posts. For social media teams, this creates another way to show an ongoing text discussion to a visually oriented Instagram audience.
The real value lies not in the additional post
A Story with an embedded Threads post can spark a conversation instead of publishing the same advertising text twice. For brands, suitable uses include well-founded answers to customer questions, public product discussions or statements on an industry debate. Editorial teams should still check the original post for context, rights and timeliness. A third-party Threads post is not automatically cleared for every promotional use.
The feature was described by Social Media Today on 4 October using a shared example. A globally guaranteed rollout or a fixed date for availability in Germany is not confirmed. Companies should check the sticker menu on their accounts themselves. The article therefore uses a labelled illustrative image rather than a supposedly official product screenshot.
The connection remains, even though Threads is becoming more independent
At first glance, the sticker seems contradictory: Threads is simultaneously separating parts of its account management and advertising processes from Instagram. Meta had already explained in early 2026 in a separate company announcement the global expansion of Threads ads and new management features for business accounts. Organisational independence therefore does not rule out a user-side share function.
Our classification of Threads ads without a linked Instagram account explains the changed business rights. Why the two networks still cannot be treated as interchangeable reach channels is shown in the user comparison of Threads and X.
Small tests instead of unsubstantiated reach promises
If you already see the sticker, you can compare three Story variants: the bare Threads post, the same post with a short editorial classification, and a self-designed Story with a clear conversation prompt. More meaningful than mere impressions are reactions, profile visits, actual visits to the discussion and recurring participation. Without accessible click or referral data, the exact transfer between the apps remains hard to measure.
Threads is simultaneously expanding Live Chats for community conversations. For companies, this creates a connected workflow: discussion on Threads, discovery via Instagram and subsequent moderation on the original post. The sticker is an organic content tool, not a new ad format and no guarantee of more reach.
