The move from influencer recommendation to paid ad is becoming technically easier – but not necessarily more lucrative for every creator. ShopMy Spotlights uses already published affiliate posts as material for Meta Partnership Ads and TikTok Spark Ads. According to the official creator guide, compensation is basically handled through the existing sales commission, not through an additional flat usage fee.
The product has been available since 30 September2026. On 28 October, Adweek reported that ShopMy is bringing in former Trade Desk manager Jed Dederick as Chief Revenue Officer to expand its creator commerce business. The personnel change alone would hardly be industry news. What matters is how ShopMy combines affiliate data, ad delivery and creator rights in one process.
How the new process works
Brands select posts in ShopMy that have already generated interest based on recorded affiliate sales. Approval can then be requested from the creator. Alternatively, Instant Spotlights allows certain requests to be approved in advance. On Meta, the content runs as a Partnership Ad, on TikTok as a Spark Ad; it remains assigned to the creator's account and is delivered to a paid audience.
According to TikTok For Business, ShopMy is the first affiliate platform to integrate the TikTok One Content Suite API for this purpose. So this is not just a new ShopMy dashboard: the interface moves content search and ad approval into a partner workflow. TikTok's Spark Ad help continues to explain the basic need for ad authorisation.
A different risk profile for creators and brands
According to ShopMy, brands' effort for new creatives and flat licence fees decreases. Ad delivery itself still costs budget. Creators receive their normal affiliate commission for attributed sales, according to the ShopMy compensation documentation. The commission currently cannot be freely renegotiated for individual Spotlights. Already published content can be reused, provided the platform approvals are in place.
This is no automatic win-win guarantee: if a paid campaign brings reach but no commissioned sales, the brand gains exposure, but the creator does not necessarily gain additional income. Conversely, a strong post can generate revenue beyond its organic lifecycle. Anyone who regularly agrees paid usage fees must explicitly factor in these opportunity costs.
What the performance figures prove – and what they don't
In the ShopMy announcement, cosmetics brand MUTHA reports more than 100 partnership ads within one month after using the product, 140 percent more GMV compared with its previous monthly average, and 55 percent higher ROAS than with previous standard Meta ads. These are practical figures reported by the companies involved, not an independent controlled impact study. Season, creative selection, audiences and budget allocation could also influence the result.
Moreover, an attributed order is not automatically an additional order. A reliable test would have to compare incremental orders against a suitable control group and account for ad costs, platform costs and creator commissions. This same measurement question also arises with the ShopMy budget shift at Ruggable and the Flywheel analysis of TikTok Shop creator patterns.
Rights, labelling and the German context
For German brands, approvals should not be equated with an unlimited licence: term, platforms, territories, edits, music rights and withdrawal options need to be clarified. In its approval help, ShopMy explains that creators can approve requests automatically or individually. According to its own information, the ads appear with a paid partnership label; regardless, German campaigns must take into account the guidelines of the German media authorities.
The new use of organic creator pins for Pinterest advertising shows the same trend: brands are not just buying creator reach, they are licensing existing content for a further, paid placement. Public product pages do not confirm whether Spotlights is enabled in Germany for every brand and every account; US product availability must not be presented as a guaranteed German activation.
