TikTok Shop is becoming an acquisition market for advertising agencies. Two US deals from September show what is at stake: Power Digital took over the Amazon agency pirawna and the TikTok specialist uptickk, while Common Thread Collective (CTC) bought the TikTok Shop agency TBAR Partners. ADWEEK revisited the consolidation on 4 2026 November. Behind it is a business that goes far beyond producing viral videos: anyone who wants to turn creator reach into product sales needs shop operations, affiliate networks, media buying and reliable numbers at the same time.
Why large agencies are buying TikTok specialists
Power Digital announced its two acquisitions officially on the 22 of September 2026. According to the company, pirawna brings more than ten years of Amazon experience and manages over one billion US dollars in annual sales on the marketplace. uptickk adds TikTok Shop and affiliate expertise. According to Power Digital, the company was one of four agencies in the early TikTok commerce beta program.
The decisive point is the combination. A brand can use a creator video to generate attention on TikTok, win some orders in TikTok Shop and achieve further sales on Amazon or in its own web shop. Anyone who looks only at the revenue of a single platform is planning with incomplete information.
Power Digital therefore wants to connect its teams to its AI platform Omega and its measurement consultancy fusepoint. The goal is a shared view of DTC, marketplaces, retail media and paid social. The official commerce overview now makes this link central to the offering.
TBAR shows which expertise is especially sought after
Common Thread Collective has also strengthened its specialisation. The company announced the acquisition of TBAR Partners on the 22 of September. The agency says it manages more than 5 million US dollars in gross merchandise value (GMV) per month for brands such as Ridge, HexClad and Grüns.
TBAR describes an operational model made up of creator recruitment, product samples, affiliate management, content volumes and campaign testing. In practice, it is not just about finding suitable faces. It is about constantly producing new product explanations and purchase incentives, deliberately boosting successful videos with ad budget, and keeping inventory and margin in view at the same time.
One detail from the TBAR interview is revealing: in a Ridge campaign, around 7.000 creator videos reportedly came together within a single month. This is an example from the company's own account, but it makes the scale of such programmes tangible. For comparison, our analysis of the 1,5 million distributed TikTok Shop product samples shows why an efficient sampling system matters economically for brands.
What is really being bought is processes and data
A TikTok Shop agency usually brings three assets: an activatable creator network, a proven operating system for products, briefs and commissions, and experience in turning content into actual orders. Large agency groups can sell such capabilities to existing clients without having to build them from scratch.
Measurement becomes the central challenge here: a TikTok video can trigger an Amazon purchase that does not appear in TikTok Shop reporting. Conversely, a brand's sales can rise while the content merely captures demand that would have existed anyway. That is precisely why buyers are connecting their specialist agencies with cross-channel analytics and testing systems.
The business model also affects creators themselves. The contribution a video makes across several sales channels raises questions about usage rights, commission terms and additional paid social deployments. We explain how posts can be turned into ads using the example of ShopMy Spotlights.
What German retailers can take away from this
TikTok Shop has been available in Germany since March 2025. When choosing an agency, don't just ask about views or creator numbers; compare concrete services and responsibilities: Who manages shop listings and returns? Who checks advertising claims? How are samples and affiliate commissions calculated? Which data from TikTok Shop, webshop and Amazon are analysed together?
On top of that comes scaling with ads. The TikTok Shop Black Friday overview for German retailers shows how closely creator formats, live commerce and conversion tracking already work together.
The acquisitions in the US are therefore less a bet on the next TikTok trend than on lasting capability: social content is becoming sales infrastructure, and agencies are buying the teams that already master this interplay.
