Domino’s is directly targeting some of the best-known fast-food products with its new campaign “Is the Domino Worthy?”. Instead of just advertising against the Big Mac, Whopper or Crunchwrap Supreme, the chain makes buying them part of its own promotion: customers can upload a receipt for selected competing products and receive a code for the new Domino’s pizza in return. In total, Domino’s provided 1 million US dollars or at least 105.375 free codes for this.
The promotion started on 31 August 2026. On the official campaign page, it was already stated on 5 September that all free Domino’s had been claimed. The planned promotion was thus already used up just a few days after launch.
Buying the competition becomes a sampling mechanism
The promoted mechanic is unusually direct: participants buy a Big Mac, Whopper, Crunchwrap Supreme, Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich or Chipotle Burrito, upload the receipt and receive a code for a free Domino’s pizza. The official terms also provide for participation without a purchase.
Domino’s positions its new rectangular Detroit-style pizza primarily not against other pizza chains, but against well-known individual products from the fast-food market. The reasoning: classic pizza is often a group meal, while products such as the Big Mac or Whopper are clearly tailored to a single person.
This makes the promotion more interesting for marketers than an ordinary giveaway. The competition is not only mentioned in the communication but built directly into the conversion path. Buying a competitor’s product becomes the trigger for product sampling at Domino’s.
Social video, Netflix and classic media come together
According to Marketing Dive, the promotion is part of the larger campaign “Pizza Can’t. The Domino Can”. A social video directly targets the competing fast-food products. In addition, longer and shorter spots run across online video, connected TV, paid digital, social, and classic TV and live environments.
Domino’s also planned placements around the international NFL season opener on Netflix on 10 September and the Emmys on 14 September, among others. In addition, the brand is relying on large out-of-home displays and activations around Fashion Week in New York.
The official Domino’s press release confirms the million-dollar promotion and the at least 105.375 codes available. According to Domino’s, more than 85 percent of retail sales in the US also came through digital channels 2025. The mechanic of receipt upload, code and digital order thus fits directly into the brand’s existing commerce funnel.
Brands increasingly build campaigns around a specific action
The Domino’s promotion fits into current campaigns where social is meant not only to deliver reach, but to draw users into a specific action. Dr. Squatch combines IShowSpeed, social challenges, Walmart and TikTok Shop, while Snickers links ChatGPT, Reddit, Snapchat and DoorDash in one activation.
Chipotle also builds its new campaign entirely from creator material. What the examples have in common is that social is not viewed in isolation: creators, commerce, sampling, paid media and real-world touchpoints are connected into a measurable process.
At Domino’s this process is particularly clear. The brand uses the purchase from a competitor as the entry point, exchanges the proof for a product trial, and then leads the user directly into its own digital ordering process.
