Disney+ will livestream Super Bowl LXI on 14 February 2027. On 7 October, Disney and ESPN confirmed that subscribers in the USA can watch both the English-language ESPN/ABC production and the Spanish-language ESPN Deportes version via Disney+. Outside the USA, the stream is set to be available in more than 55 markets.
For advertisers, the news is more than an additional distribution channel. Disney is bringing one of the most valuable live sports events deeper into its streaming ecosystem, linking linear TV, the ESPN app and Disney+ in a shared reach model.
Disney+ gets the Super Bowl and two NFL games before it
Besides the Super Bowl, two regular-season Monday Night Football games this season will also be available to Disney+ subscribers. The first is Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles on 26 October. Disney will name a second game later.
The Super Bowl itself will remain available in parallel on ESPN and ABC as well as in the ESPN app. Disney+ does not replace the existing channels. Rather, the company is widening the distribution of a live event that is already marketed across several of its own platforms.
For Germany, the key point is this: Disney's announcement names more than 55 international Disney+ markets, including Latin America, Brazil, the Caribbean, South Africa, as well as Australia and New Zealand. Germany is not explicitly mentioned in the current announcement. Availability in Germany therefore cannot be inferred from the US announcement.
From a TV event to a streaming package
The expansion fits Disney's longer-term reshaping of the Super Bowl. ESPN calls the season the "Year of the Super Bowl" and is building content, fan activations and advertising products around the game across several Disney brands.
Srocket had already analysed how Disney markets the Super Bowl 2027 as a social and game-week event. The new Disney+ distribution adds an extra streaming touchpoint to this strategy.
The line between classic TV and streaming is also becoming blurrier. This matches the development we described in our article on streaming, pay-TV bundles and CTV: major live rights are no longer planned for a single reception path, but as a portfolio spanning linear and digital surfaces.
What this means for advertising
Disney had already sold out the entire advertising inventory for Super Bowl LXI in August. 58 brands from 34 categories secured slots, including nine first-time Super Bowl advertisers. According to the company, it was the earliest full sell-out of Super Bowl advertising inventory.
The Disney+ expansion does not suddenly create new classic Super Bowl spots. What is interesting is the additional reach around the same content. Brands can link a TV spot, social content, streaming environments and activations within the same corporate ecosystem.
That Disney does not treat "ad-free" streaming tiers as absolutely ad-free for live content is something we have already covered in our Disney+ ad rules.
Why this step goes beyond the Super Bowl
Disney+ was originally positioned as an entertainment streaming service. With live sports, individual NFL games and the Super Bowl, the service's role as a general live platform is growing.
For media planners, this is another sign that streaming reach and traditional TV reach can increasingly no longer be viewed separately when it comes to major sports rights.
